When owning exotic animals, especially reptiles, one should be knowledgeable in basic first aid regarding minor injuries to your reptile!

A basic first aid/emergency kit should consist of:

  • Betadine or povidine iodine

  • Dechlorinated water and/or unflavored Pedialyte

  • Cotton swabs

  • Sterile Gauze

  • Neosporin without pain relief

  • Dechra Miconahex + Triz wipes

  • Vetericyn Spray

  • Vet wrap

  • Sterile saline

  • Manuka honey

  • Unflavored water-based lubricant

  • Tweezers

  • Nitrile or disposable gloves

  • Your preferred reptile calorie supplement (Emeraid, Oxbow Critical Care, Reptiboost)

  • Calcium powder with and without vitamin D3

  • Hot Hands + protective towel

  • The following can be prescribed under a veterinarian's guidance and may be helpful in emergencies:

    • SMZ or other oral antibiotics

    • Terramycin eye ointment

    • SSD Cream

    • Subcutaneous fluids (Type of fluids would depend on the animal's condition)

I also suggest buying instant and quick meals for your animal, such as Repashy's diets, if you have to grab your first aid/emergency kit and move quickly!
